why the time is now to start your business

Although I had plenty of people tell me that starting a business in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic a week after graduating college wasn’t the best idea, there was really no better time to do it. I always knew I would start a business for myself. From a very young age, I was coming up with business ideas, app ideas, of things I was interested in. I knew that I wanted to lead my own team and grow a business on my own terms. I am the type of person that will either give 0% or 100% to things in my life and a career is something you spend most of your time doing and if I was going to be putting 100% into it, then I wanted to be the one making the decisions. I understand not everyone is as imaginative as I was growing up, and even if you have only been thinking of starting one in the past few months with the extra time you have working from home, this is still just as good of a sign as any.

Here are some reasons why you should start your own business:

Take the week off, work 10 am-2 pm, work nights, work days, the possibilities are endless, just remember, you usually get out what you put in!

“The market I’m interested in is oversaturated”

There may be a lot of people selling a similar product, but often times it isn’t what you sell to people, it is the story and inspiration behind it. This is often a topic of conversation with the businesses I work with. I am always working with them on “What sets you apart, what makes you different” - That is the first step to success. One answer to this is to the younger audience: Yes, there may be plenty of people in the market, but how many people your age are doing this? You appeal to a completely different audience. That’s how you have to view any industry you are interested in: what uniqueness are you going to bring to the table? - If you can't answer this, then keep brainstorming.

“I don’t have the money to start a business”

There are many ways to start a business without breaking your bank account. Don’t let that scare you away. But, the saying is true, you have to spend money to make money and the fear of failure and spending money is what separates those that wanted to start versus those that did.

“Do I really have the time?”

The extra time you are saving by working from home or attending online school is the perfect amount of time to be able to commit to building your new business on the side. Too many people are afraid of making the jump but it doesn’t have to be a jump, you just need a step.

Owning a business isn’t easy, there are very long hours, a lot of responsibility working with clients or creating products, and it’s always on your mind. But that is also the benefit. The more you put in, the more you will get out and there is endless possibility for growth and opportunity.
